To most people, Labor Day symbolizes that summer is coming to an end, it’s time to put your whites away and prepare for fall. Personally I never stand by this rule; I will wear white in a pile of snow. They probably do not know Labor Day is the oldest federal holiday in the United States. Enacted in 1894, it celebrates the social and economic contribution in the workforce—that is, anyone who works and spends the money they make. What better way to spend money than a busy weekend in Las Vegas?
A three-day weekend in Vegas means packed pools, long lines and high table minimums. That means don’t ask your friend for favors to get you a free bottle, avoid the line, or pay no cover with fifteen people. You know who you are. The social contribution you’ll make will be an annoying one. If you get any hookup… you better contribute to that person’s economic situation. All the best DJs come out to play—the same lineup that played on Memorial Day Weekend, Electric Daisy Carnival Weekend, and Fourth of July Weekend. I guess Vegas’s Big Weekend philosophy is, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
The power heads of electric dance music—Tryst, XS, Surrender and Encore Beach Club—have the strongest lineups. Afrojack, deadmau5, Calvin Harris, NERVO, Tiesto, Steve Aoki, Porter Robinson, Morgan Page, and Dada Life are all scheduled to play. Switching things up a bit, deadmau5 is making his debut at Tryst Nightclub on Saturday night. David Guetta is returning for his repeat Memorial Day Weekend act of XS’ Night Swim on Sunday.
Tao Group is delivering a strong lineup as well with EDM DJs such as Avicii, Benny Benassi, Above & Beyond, Hardwell, Martin Solveig and, my personal favorite, Kaskade spinning at Marquee Dayclub & Nightclub. Erick Morillo makes his typical holiday weekend return at Tao while Gareth Emery and DJ Redfoo play at Tao Beach.
For those who aren’t a fan of EDM, there are other options to check out. Sean “P. Diddy” Combs hosts Chateau for “The Sexiest Party in the City” on Saturday night. Wiz Khalifa will be joining Ditch Fridays at the Palms Pool and Travie McCoy at Pure Nightclub on Saturday.
A three day weekend in Vegas is a labor in itself. Having an extra day to party, you will sure have an extra day of memories that never happened… or least that is what you will tell your boss when you are hungover on Tuesday.
