The Men are Making a Move

Las Vegas has always been kind to women. Women get into clubs easily, get comp tables and party with high rollers. Those benefits come despite the fact that women here make great money in choice jobs as cocktail servers and bartenders. Well, times are changing.

In 2001, Light Group opened its flagship nightclub, Light, at Bellagio. You know it now as The Bank. It was the first venue in town to offer bottle service. You know how other clubs responded to that. Every venue competed to hire the most beautiful women to serve guests. Light Group is again stepping out ahead of the pack, by making a huge reversal from this tried-and-true formula.

Starting at The Bank, waitresses will no longer exist. Instead, waiters will deliver drinks. And really, let’s be honest: How often is your cocktail server the one who tends to your drinks? Half the time once the waitress drops the bottle, you may not see her for the rest of the night. So what happens to women? They become “hosts.”  Instead of serving drinks, they‘ll be drinking them. Their job is to bring in clients, entertain them, get them to spend more money, and build a relationship in an effort to drive repeat business.  The concept comes from overseas. It’s the hottest thing in Europe. Where do you think bottle service originated? The guests are getting more of an experience, rather just booking a table. Many may seem skeptical, but, don’t underestimate the intelligence of a new idea.

A great idea like, for example, The Best Man, from SPYONVegas. The event is my baby. It wasn’t easy to sell the idea to allow 35 men the same treatment women get in local competitions. I say where there are men, women will follow — especially when they’re bachelors. The program was a great success in raising close to $5,000 to local charities. We brought it back this year, bigger and better, with more chances to mingle with the men. On top of that, the program expanded to Seattle. Nominations are open in both cities, finding the best men in each. If you know a bachelor that would make the cut, check out the details on the Vegas and Seattle sites.

Change is good. It makes things exciting and keeps the scene fresh. And don’t worry ladies, we aren’t being demoted. They just want us to stand by the men.
