I don’t know if you have noticed, but summer is definitely here and it is hot! I personally loath the hot weather, but it is the price I pay to live in Sin City. Night time in the summer is a little better because as the sun goes down, the temperature drops a couple of degrees. Spending my time drinking cold beverages outdoors during the night is one of my favorite things to do, especially by a pool. If live music is going on in the background, even better. Unfortunately, Friday Night Live did not return this year, but that doesn’t mean other pools aren’t trying to deliver musical entertainment pool side. Live concerts along with drink specials are going on in every region of the city, some with big names and some with big drink specials.
Red Rock Resort Pool
Nightlife stations created a “revolution” this summer bringing some big acts for guests to enjoy for free. Guests can register online and score two free tickets for the Friday night concerts as long as they arrive by 8 p.m. Red Rock offers half off Belvedere drinks from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. enticing patrons to arrive on time. I have been to a couple already and enjoyed them immensely. Simply go online to http://nightlifestation.com/index.php/tickets and sign up to get tickets to every Friday’s show. Remaining shows are as follow: Gavin DeGraw – June 24; Grace Potter & The Nocturnals – July 1; Puddle of Mudd – July 8; Neon Trees – July 15; Lifehouse – July 29; Weezer – August 5. I have just died and gone back to high school.
I stumbled upon M Pool Live one Saturday night when a group of my friends decided to check out the resort for the first time. We walked into the pool area and were given two free drink tickets for Miller Lite. We walked in at 7:55 p.m. and the free beer ended at 8 p.m. so the bartenders gave us the two right away. The concert started at 8 p.m. I can’t say the “concert” was something that blew us away but the ambiance and 2 for 1 beer kept us there for quite some time. All the daybeds are complimentary along with the chairs around the pool. Even if you don’t drink beer, I recommend a bottle because a bottle of Skyy is only $65! My friend went to buy a round of Crown Royal shots and ended up buying the bottle for $100. I would tell you about the rest of the night, but it’s kind of blurry. The event is going down every Saturday throughout the summer.
The Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan
I do believe I have said this once or twice, but I am obsessed with The Cosmopolitan. The Boulevard Pool is just icing on the cake. I have attended a few concerts here and the overall experience is unforgettable. Being located right on the Strip, there is a full view right behind the stage. Being equipped with multiple bars along with cabanas with satellite stations, it doesn’t take forever to grab a drink and dance the night away under the night sky lit with neon lights. Concerts remaining for the summer are as follows: Ben Folds Five with special guest Kenton Chen – July 15; Queens of the Stone Age – July 23; Death Cab for Cutie – August 20; Ben Harper – September 3; Thievery Corporation – September 10; TV on the Radio & Artic Monkeys – September 23. The Cosmopolitan also has other concerts in other venues including Deadmau5 for Labor Day Weekend.
Sway Pool at Silverton Casino
Jumping on the concert series at the pool bandwagon, Silverton Casino is making a splash at its Sway Pool. Promoting Bikinis, Bands, and Burgers on Saturdays, guests pay $10 to enjoy free drinks from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. while enjoying the sounds and grabbing a snack. Listen to the sounds of reggae for four more Saturdays with: Tribal Seeds, For Twenty Daze – July 2; Inna Visions, Mishka – July 16; Marcia Griffiths, Lady Reiko & The Sin City Prophets – August 6; Michael Black w/ Detour Posse – August 13.
Moorea Beach Club at Mandalay Bay
Keeping up with competition, Mandalay Bay is bringing a variety of concerts with different genres to Moorea Beach Club. Ticket prices vary depending on the band, but I guess if you’re a fan, the experience is priceless. Fourth of July weekend is right around the corner so along with some greats sounds by Mystic Roots you can also enjoy a fireworks show starting at 9 p.m. Hard rock Godsmack performs Friday, July 8 with folk singer, Chris Issac, to follow Saturday, July 16. Making a comeback, 70’s hitmaker, Peter Frampton will make a stop on his tour, Friday, July 29. Fast forwarding to the 80’s decade get a taste of the lost artists with 80’s Lost Live, Saturday, August 13. The Beach Boys along with B-52’s are taking over for Labor Day Weekend so “roam” over there if you want to.
On top of all the concert series, mainstream DJs are also taking over summer at all the party pools. Whether you prefer to head out day or night, expect cold drinks to cool you off after dancing up a storm. Maybe I should encourage those to do a rain dance. There is nothing like a thunderstorm during a hot summer night, just make sure it doesn’t come pouring down in the middle of the show.
